SAD NEWS: In Oklahoma, a skunk parent brought their pet, a domestic/captive bred skunk, to get spayed to Catoosa Small Animal Hospital in Catoosa Oklahoma

As the baby skunk was waking up from the procedure, while they were not wearing gloves, two veterinary technicians were handling the skunk to put a cone on her, as they were instructed to do. This understandably startled the skunk and as a result, she bit both of them. The clinic's policy is to send anyone who gets bit to see a doctor. The bite was reported, resulting in the state sending an order to kill the skunk.

The skunk owner got a lawyer to help fight the kill order. Skunkhaven helped behind the scenes. The state, owner, breeder and a veterinarian that has permits for practicing in Texas and Oklahoma, plus has wildlife rehab permits, had a court hearing via Zoom on Thursday, October 27th. It was up to the Judge to decide the fate of this family's pet skunk. The Catoosa Small Animal Hospital, nor the Vet Techs, stuck up for the life of the innocent skunk, as they should have. I believe ALL of them should be ashamed of themselves and should NOT be working with any family pets/animals.

On Friday, the decision was made. The Judge ruled to kill the skunk. In my opinion it is due to this clinic's negligence in not implementing the proper safety protocols for protecting humans and pets by not wearing gloves. Additionally, everyone who works at a VET clinic should be vaccinated against rabies.

This unfortunate event has caused this precious and much-loved family member to be unnecessarily killed. The skunk only acted in self-defense as any human would have done.

I think everyone should speak up and write a review and avoid taking their pets to this clinic for the safety and well-being of their own pets. The next innocent animal that may be killed could be YOURS!
